Album entitled "Fellini Jazz" by pianist Enrico Pieranunzi recorded on 3, 4, 5 March 2003 at the Forum Music Village in Rome and published by the Cam Jazz label.
Enrico Pieranunzi (piano), Kenny Wheeler (trumpet and flugelhorn), Chris Potter (tenor and soprano sax), Charlie Haden (double bass), Paul Motian (drums).
The disc was recorded on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of director Federico Fellini in 2003. Following the request for the Cam label (copyright holder of all music from Fellini's films) to put together a “special” group for the recording sessions of the recording work, Pieranunzi contacted four international jazz musicians: Paul Motian, with whom the pianist had started a fruitful collaboration since 1992 and with whom the year before I had recorded the duo album"Doorways”, bassist Charlie Haden, with whom he had recorded two albums, "Silence” (1987) e “First Song“(1990), in trio with drummer Billy Higgins, and finally the young saxophonist Chris Potter and Canadian trumpeter Kenny Wheeler. The arrangements of the soundtracks of Fellini's films are treated by Pieranunzi in such a way as to "sew them on" to the peculiar personalities of the four extraordinary musicians present. Examples are “I Vitelloni”, “La città delle donne”, “La strada”. There are two compositions written by Enrico Pieranunzi a few days before the recording, "Cabiria's dream" and "Fellini's Waltz", recorded in duo with Charlie Haden.
