Night Bird – Spartito

Picture of the score of the song “Night Bird” by the pianist and composer Enrico Pieranunzi.

The song "Night Bird" was composed by Enrico Pieranunzi in 1978 and included in its first version on the album "From Always to Now”, released in the same year. It is characterized by being a minor blues with an unusual harmonic structure. In addition, the captivating melodic theme is the setting for explosive improvisations derived from the technique of "bunches" of notes traceable in McCoy Tyner's piano approach. A second version with an intimate and minimalist character will appear in the album "Soft Journey” recorded, between the end of 1979 and the beginning of 1980, by the Roman pianist together with Chet Baker. In the following years it rises to a jazz standard thanks to the American trumpeter who, falling in love with the composition, will record it several times teaching it to other trumpet players and instrumentalists all over the world.
