The song "Night Bird” was composed by Enrico Pieranunzi in 1978 and included in its first version on the album "From Always to Now”, released in the same year. It is characterized by being a blues in minor with an unusual harmonic structure, a captivating melodic theme and explosive improvisations derived from the "clusters" of notes technique traceable in McCoy Tyner's piano approach.

A second version of the song, with an intimate and minimalist character, will appear on the album "Soft Journey” recorded, between the end of 1979 and the beginning of 1980, by the Roman pianist together with the American trumpeter Chet Baker.

In subsequent years "Night Bird” became a jazz standard thanks to Chet Baker who, having fallen in love with the composition, recorded it several times and taught it to other trumpeters and instrumentalists around the world.
