The Heart of The Ballad – Baker/Pieranunzi

Discography (labels) from the 80s

Album titled "The Heart of the Ballad” by American trumpeter Chet Baker with pianist Enrico Pieranunzi, recorded on February 29, 1988 at the Malleus Studio and released by the label Philology.

In 1988, two recording sessions with the American trumpeter Chet Baker were organized in Recanati (Marche) by Paolo Piangerelli, producer of the Philology label: the first on February 29 in a duo with Enrico Pieranunzi and in the following two days, March 1 and 2, with the Space Jazz trio, formed by the Roman pianist together with Enzo Pietropaoli on double bass and Fabrizio Sferra on drums. The recorded material is published in the two albums "Chet Baker/Enrico Pieranunzi – The Heart of the Ballad e “Chet Baker Meets Space Jazz Trio – Little Girl Blue”. The recording of the two discs will be Pieranunzi's last chance to meet in the studio with his friend Baker; the trumpeter died in May of the same year in Amsterdam.

The words written by Chet Baker for the liner notes of the album give the full sense of the deep artistic bond between him and the Roman pianist, in which mutual affection and specular musical vision are combined – “I love Enrico, his touch, his lyricism, his compositional vein, his musical mind, his soul, he truly has one. I always want to play with Enrico and his wonderful Space Jazz Trio”.
