The soloists and ensembles who performed in concert for the occasion were: Gianluigi Trovesi Trio, Enrico Pieranunzi, Giorgio Gaslini Octet, Milan Jazz Quartet, Franco D'Andrea, Enrico Rava Quartet with Massimo Urbani.

Use: The "Top Jazz" referendum was born at the end of 1982 and in the following years it will become a fixed event capable of providing a projection of the climate of opinion of critics and the public in relation to soloists, groups and recordings of the Italian jazz scene. On 6 March 1983 Arrigo Polillo (founder and director of the Musica Jazz magazine) and the winning musicians of the first referendum, Giorgio Gaslini, Enrico Pieranunzi, Franco D'Andrea, Massimo Urbani, Gianluigi Trovesi, Enrico Rava and Carlo Bagnoli, are hosted by the television programme Blitz broadcast on Rai2, hosted by Gianni Minà (with the production of the journalist and television author Giovanni Minoli). Participation in the Rai program will be Arrigo Polillo's last television appearance before his death on 17 July 1984.

The entire material recorded on analogue support was digitized and restored by the sound engineers of the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome under the supervision of Paolo Marra, curator of the Jazz Archive in Rome.
