A Beautiful Grit - Piero Umiliani

Italian cinema and 1960s jazz

Soundtrack of the film "A Beautiful Grit" (by director Giuliano Montaldo) composed and directed by Piero Umiliani, registered in 1965 for the CAM label.

The music of the film is performed by the quintet formed by: Gato Barbieri (soprano saxophone and leader), Franco D'Andrea (piano), Enrico Rava (trumpet), Gegè Munari (drums), Gianni Foccià (double bass).

The formation in the period between 1964 and 1965 is engaged in the "Purgatory" (jazz club located in an underground room of the "Meo Patacca" restaurant near the Trastevere district of Rome), working at the same time in the creation of soundtracks for the Italian cinema. In addition to the film "Una Bella Grinta", the quintet will participate in 1964 in the recording of the soundtrack of "Before the Revolution" (by director Bernardo Bertolucci), later discarded in favor of the one composed of Ennio Morricone and Gino Paoli.
