Go (Dexter Gordon) I RECOMMEND IT BECAUSE: Many years later, when he finally decided to answer the question he was often asked: “which do you prefer among your records?
Dexter listened to all his recordings again and decided on “Go” (Maxine Gordon: “Dexter Gordon: sophisticated giant”. University of California press 2018).
I have always considered Dexter Gordon a point of reference and I believe that this record represents, perhaps, the pinnacle of his aesthetic conception. In "Go", the authoritative majesty of Dexter's sound and the clarity of his melodic construction are enhanced by a truly extraordinary rhythm section, making this record a true masterpiece. All the tracks are real gems, in particular the wonderful ballad "I guess i'll hang my tears out to dry" in which a Dexter in amazing shape shows the whole world how to play a ballad. Finally, a fundamental album, to be listened to carefully, thoroughly and repeatedly.
