
The didactics are aimed to educate the contemporary composers, allowing them to move with competence in various fields of application of music, cinema and television, advertising, videogames, theater, art installations, through a full mastery of classical harmony, contemporary and modal, of contrapuntal techniques and also orchestration with real and virtual instruments.

Composition and Applied Music Department - Study plan, enrollment and admission procedures
Study path aimed to prepare the students for the admission to the first cycle academic courses in Composition and Film Scoring and Applied Music; each student can access by an admission test and the duration varies from one to 2 years depending on the self-preparation of each aspirant defined after the admission test.

Pre-academic course with limited number: 16 students are selected each year
At the end of the pre-academic path, students can access to:
First cycle diploma focused on the preparation of the modern film music composer. The training course aims at the acquisition and development of creativity and compositional technical skills, having at disposal, unique in Italy, musical ensembles, from the string quartet to the saxophone quintet up to the Beethoven symphony orchestra, for the checking, execution and direction of the student's own scores.
Applied Music is today a recent and innovative music orientation. It arises from the need to provide artistic and compositional support to different entertainment industries (Cinema, Television, Gaming, Prose, Musical, Communication) from which the term "applied". The musical language in these cases is at the service of the media, of a product or a performance taking into consideration the "approach" that must be assumed to integrate itself with the language of the media, to arouse emotions in the spectator, to accompany the dramaturgy, the script, to emphasize a situation, an action, a landscape. Orchestration, counterpoint, harmony, composition are enriched with modern elements that take into account the linearity and not linearity of synchronicity. Technology plays a fundamental role in applied music as the modern composer must have extensive competence in composing and orchestrating virtually, in processing a sound through a synthesis and/or sampling technique, in processing and assembling all sound information in a multichannel or 3D mix. To the classic subjects of musical compositional direction are added technological subjects that allow the student to become familiar and competent with music informatics, sound design, electronic music, virtual voice.

The Composition Department offers two different 2nd cycle specialization diplomas:
Specialization and enhancement of compositional competences and orchestration skills. The specific study of the filmic language of music will be deepened through the knowledge of the specific music's literature for images and experimental mixes of traditional and virtual orchestration.
Applied Music is the academic path closest to the job market and in continuous evolution, to provide artistic and compositional support to various entertainment industries (Cinema, Television, Gaming, Prose, Musical, Communication). The musical language is at the service of a media, a product, a performance, taking into account the "character" it must assume to integrate with the language of the media, to arouse emotions in the spectators, to accompany the dramaturgy, the script, to underline a situation, an action, a landscape.
