Maurizio Giammarco

Protagonist of Jazz scenery in Italy since the early 1970s (as also attested by the prestigious Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz di Leonard Feather & Ira Gitler), Maurizio Giammarco è un affermato solista di saxophone, compositore, arrangiatore e leader di gruppi storici: da Lingomania (considered the most representative group of the 1980s), at the Parco Della Musica Jazz Orchestra (PMJO), a big band residing at the Auditorium in Rome and directed by him between 2005 and 2010. His work for great organics has recently continued with three projects for the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra del Mediterraneo (Cieli di Sicilia, The Bach Open Project: Vie di Fuga, il Brasile di Maria Pia De Vito). With a deep knowledge of all historical jazz and a long experience also in other musical fields (he was also part of the contemporary Ensemble of the Parco Della Musica), Giammarco boasts a recognizable style as soloist and as composer, the result of a personal synthesis of his own experience. He's played with a lot of jazzmen international renown (Chet Baker, Lester Bowie, Dave Liebman, Phil Markowitz, Miroslav Vitous and many others), and with almost all the most important Italian musicians. Among his many musical projects, the Rundeep Quartet , (with Vic Juris, Jay Anderson and Adam Nussbaum) was documented on the recent CD Lights and Shades. Distinguished in the past also as freelancer in pop music records and tours, he is currently also active in the educational field.

He composed and arranged music for theatre, dance, cinema, cd roms, symphony orchestras and string orchestras. He is the author of a monograph on Sonny Rollins (1996) and a book of his compositions and transcriptions published by Carish (2012). He conducted the Termoli Jazz Podium exhibition from 2000 to 2006.
