Journalist and editor-in-chief of the newspaper La Repubblica. He began his journalistic activity in 1977 and in 1978 he collaborated as a music critic at Il Manifesto, for which he wrote until 1984. In 1979 he began writing for La Repubblica, where he was music critic and editor-in-chief. He is currently working as a correspondent.
He was director of McLink and Kataweb. He is a collaborator of the Italian Encyclopedia Treccani, for the items concerning popular music.
He has been a collaborator in over thirty years of his activity with numerous Italian and foreign weeklies and monthlies, including Epoca, L’Espresso, Rolling Stone. He conceived and was responsible for Repubblica's Music, Computer Valley and Computer, Internet and Other supplements.
He has written books on music criticism, some of which together with his colleague Gino Castaldo, with whom since 2005 he has held “Rock lessons. Journey to the center of music ”with the aim of deepening, also thanks to a guided listening and the videos shown, the story of those who have entered the legend of rock.
From 2003 to 2009 he taught "Theory and technique of new media" and later "Analysis of musical languages" at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Sapienza University in Rome.
