The seminar includes both group exercises and individual performances. Jay Clayton will share his technique and his personal approach to free improvisation, as well as some innovative ideas for improvising on harmonic sequences. Jay is a pioneer in teaching vocal improvisation. She was the Director of the Vocal Department at Cornish College of the Arts for 20 years and currently works in New York as a lecturer in the Jazz School of the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.

Jay Clayton
Jay Clayton is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, composer and educator whose work ranges from jazz to experimental music. With more than 40 recordings under his belt, Clayton has collaborated with leading artists such as Muhal Richard Abrams, Steve Reich, Kirk Nurock, Julian Priester, Jerry Granelli, Jane Ira Bloom, Gary Bartz, Jack Wilkins, George Cables, Fred Hersch, Gary Thomas, tap dancer Brenda Bufalino and singers like Jeanne Lee, Norma Winstone, Urszula Dudziak and Bobby McFerrin.
He has taught and held seminars all over the world. His book "Sing Your Story: A Practical Guide for Learning and Teaching the Art of Jazz Singing," was published by Advance Music in 2001.
