ADMISSION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

On this page you will find information on the admission of international students to ACADEMIC COURSES (Bachelor's or Master's level) and to FOUNDATION COURSES (Pre-academic).
To enrol in other non-academic courses (e.g. Junior Courses, Personalized Courses, etc.) please contact our International Office.

Students from other European Union countries do not need to apply for an entry visa, but for stays longer than 3 months it is mandatory registering your residence at the Registry office, within 90 days from the arrival date in Italy.

For registration purposes, the student must submit the following documents:
- Identity card/passport
Codice Fiscale
- Certificate of enrollment in Saint Louis
EHIC Card
Form: declaration of the economic resources
Form: declaration of
residence in Rome

Once the documents have been prepared, an appointment is made at the relevant Municipality. Rome is a big city and each area is served by a different municipality, you can locate online the one closest to your home.
The appointment at the Municipality's offices can be made through the service tupassi.it, by consulting the online availability. All original and photocopy documents must be brought to the appointment.
After registering the residence, a representative of the Municipality of Rome may come to the indicated residence to carry out an inspection.

The entire process lasts about 45 days.
Within 45 days of applying, you can go back to the Municipality's offices to collect your residency certificate, which basically means you're done with the paperwork. Don't forget to bring a copy of the certificate to the Saint Louis international office.

N.B.: CONTRACT REGISTRATION: for legal reasons, each rental contract must be registered with the Revenue Agency. Showing a declaration of regular accommodation is one of the requirements for obtaining the residence certificate, for this reason make sure that the owner or agency can provide you with a regular contract.

ENTRY VISA

Non-European students must apply for an Entry Visa at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their own Country before traveling to Italy.

If you’re traveling to Italy only for the admission test at Saint Louis, you’ll just need a short-time visa or a tourist Visa.

To become a registered student in Saint Louis, you’ll be required to have a TYPE D visa, specific for pluriennal studies. Ask to have the Visa lasting for 365 days, in order to be covered for the entire first year of studies in Rome, and to have the subsequent Permesso di Soggiorno be released on annual basis, too.

Beware that in Italy there are 20 kind of entry Visa. You can find out what kind of Visa you need on this link, though it is highly recommended that you consult the Italian Embassy in your Country on how to proceed.

Once you arrive in Italy, within 8 days students must apply for the Residency permit, which actually converts the visa (which gives you access to Italy) into an authorization to actually stay in the Country.

Here is the procedure to request and obtain it:

TAKE THE REQUEST FORM TO FILL IN:
The forms to fill in for the request - kit per la richiesta del Permesso di Soggiorno - can be obtained at a Post Office that has a "Sportello Amico".
The post offices near Saint Louis that have this branch are: (1) ROMA 44, Via Cavour, 277; (2) ROME 158, Via Marsala, 39 (English speaking personnel).
It is a series of paper forms to be filled in with your personal data, residence, etc. and to which you can attach your documents. The modules are, to date, available exclusively in Italian. The Saint Louis International Office is available to support students in compiling.

PREPARE THE FORM AND DOCUMENTS:
To the paper application it is necessary to attach:
- a copy of the passport and entry visa pages
- Registered address of residence in Rome (*)
- copy of the Health Insurance
- certificate of enrollment in Saint Louis

On the application you will have to apply a marca da bollo of the value indicated on the form itself. It is a stamp of economic value to be bought in a tobacconist's and which will be applied by the person in charge of the Post Office.

SEND DOCUMENTS:
The completed form and all required attachments will be taken to the Post Office to proceed with the shipment. At this stage you will have to pay the fee for the permit request, which will be of an amount between € 40.00 and € 100.00, depending on the duration of validity.
To accept the application, the Post Office will return a RECEIPT (to be kept scrupulously) which will show the day, time and address to show up in Police headquarters (Immigration Office) for the interview and fingerprinting. This receipt is also proof of having submitted the application, and must always be carried with you as a temporary replacement for the permit card that will be issued later. A copy of the receipt will be delivered to the Saint Louis International Office or uploaded directly to your Student Area.

Waiting times for an appointment at the police station can vary from a few weeks to a few months.

APPOINTMENT AT THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE:

On the day and time indicated on the Receipt, go to the Police Headquarters in charge of the Immigration Office, in Via Teofilo Patini, n. 23.
You can get there by taking Metro B to Rebibbia Station, plus bus 437 (the bus ride takes about 15 minutes).

It is important to bring with you all the documents already sent (passport, visa, letter of registration to Saint Louis, etc.), together with the receipt with the printed appointment and 4 Italian passport-sized photos (there are machines that take photos in this format for about € 5 throughout Rome, and especially in metro stations).
Once you enter the Police Immigration Office, after a short security check, you will have to wait for the attendants to call your name. During the appointment, the employees will be able to carry out a short interview (having a basic knowledge of Italian will help a lot), examine personal information, check documents and collect fingerprints. Finally they will ask where you want to collect your residence permit card, so it is important to be ready to appoint a police station near your home in Rome, so as not to have to return to the Police Immigration Office, which is not in a convenient area to reach.

To facilitate the withdrawal of residence permits in electronic format produced and not yet delivered, a new online service is active to check if your administrative title is ready for delivery by clicking on the site http://questure.poliziadistato.it/Roma . Once the page is displayed, you will be able to access the information requested by opening the section "electronic residence permits being delivered".

GET YOUR RESIDENCE PERMIT:
The Permit should be ready in 30-45 days approximately from the day of the appointment. After checking online if the permit is ready for delivery, it can be collected at the police station closest to your home, by presenting your passport and receipt from the post office.
