NEO SOUL ORCHESTRA
directed by Charles Burcell
The Hip Hop / Neo Soul Ensemble focuses on a wide range of musical genres and sounds.
Hip Hop was born with the "looping" of samples taken from some recordings and when you approach Hip Hop from the point of view of a musician who performs live, you have to learn how to play by taking up that "looping" mode. Hip Hop is the art of minimalism and with this orchestra we will focus on making the most of a few notes. Singers and Rappers will learn on the one hand the most famous songs of the Hip Hop repertoire, on the other hand to compose their own verses and their own original songs.
Mr Burchell says: “One of the founding principles of Hip Hop is the idea of the Cypher or infinite circle which represents the flow of energy between musicians and audience. Our goal in this ensemble is not simple to learn Hip Hop beats, but to understand the power of repetition and collective improvisation within a given framework. If you’re interested in learning everything from Boom Bap to Trap this is the ensemble for you.”
Repertoire:
It features Hip Hop and Neo Soul artists like J Dilla, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, The Roots, ATCQ, Jay-Z, Kanye West and many more.
The lessons will also focus on the composition of original pieces always in the context of Hip Hop and Neo Soul music.
