The glue of the whole album is represented by the phrasing of the guitar of Lello Panico, built over Blues, Soul, a pinch of Jazz and a maniacal attention to balance and the "singing".
"The blues is my feeling, breathing. The blues like soul, is the sound of my guitar. I am an electric guitarist and the guitar is the queen of the blues.
It is the last record work of Lello Panico and first album, entirely instrumental, after twenty years lived to play, compose and arrange all the sound material of bands like Blue Messengers, Lello Panico & The Fritz Gang, Blue Noise. His practice of instrumental writing dates back to his jazz past, culminating with the album "The Secret". The songs contained in "FIFTY YEARS AGO" are carried by all the music played and listened to by Lello.
Fifty years ago | Lello Panico The title track may have been written in the 60s for a big band, instead the theme is exposed by the guitar filtered by an envelope filter. "Louisiana" was written a few days before entering the studio and is a mixture of gospel blues on a typically New Orleans rhythm.
"You Like My Jacket" is a tribute to the Soul Jazz of the 60s in a funk key. "The Night Before The Battle" is a blues drama with harmonic openings that are affected by the great influence that Don Grolnick had on the music of Lello Panico.
